World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
Upgrades to items allow players to increase an item's gear score up to 700 and also add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you take them to the kiln.
Certain items can be upgraded to benefit from their unique stats (like perfect broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) and others, like weapons, don't change much post upgrade, so they aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Upgrades to weapons can improve their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit chance, and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also have a flat bonus which increases the damage they deal per second. A lot of weapons also have a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a unit. This bonus could be more than the damage that an upgrade alone can cause.
A weapon's upgrade costs depend on the nature of the weapon as well as its current level. For example, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while a +3 requires four. Armor

To upgrade your armor, head to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. After you've completed the main side quest and have completed the corresponding fountain you'll be able to contact any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.
Each piece of armor can be upgraded up to three levels and the amount of materials and Rupees required to complete each level will differ. You'll need anywhere between three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the first armor piece, and anywhere between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade the next one. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a good-sized group of enemies in the majority of cold environments and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded to +20 defense, granting you enough protection to survive the full-on assault with a few of your friends.
Be aware that armor can't be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll want to work on upgrading it to gain physical strength if you're a Warrior or Spell Power if you're a Mage. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you use to fight the final boss and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can gain some benefits to your armor. You'll typically want to keep these upgrades to the weapon that you'll use to beat the game. Potions
