World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item allows players to boost the gear rating of an item up 700 points, and then give it a bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory, and then taking them to the kiln.

Weapons

For items that are only used in a certain build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs, for instance) upgrading them could render them useless unless you have an extremely fortunate roll.
Upgrades can be made to armor items to improve their stats. In the case of chests or helms, this will increase the defense of its base, while a belt and gloves will increase their strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense%.
