World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs You will have to put them on your equipment. Leveling
The item upgrading system lets players increase the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components into them. This is commonly known as "upping". Every upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires a different number of components to be reached and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields several Technology Points. These points can be used to level the item, and once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When the player upgrade a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced by an item that is new. This means that the same armor piece will get an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This can be a downside since the item may become more expensive even if you don't require it.
If the player has enough tokens they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it is based on a level 1 base and completely different bonuses. This is a good idea, but should not be used frequently as it could waste resources.
Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides a buff if the player continuously enters or leaves the water.
